Annual Author Dinner

In September 2004 the Alabama Center for the Book will host its third Annual Gala Author Dinner. The dinner celebrates both writers and readers and highlights Alabama’s literary culture.

Past featured authors include:
Fannie Flagg and Homer Hickam

This year’s program will feature mystery writers:

  • Carolyn Haines, author of "Hallowed Bones", "Them Bones", "Buried Bones", "Splintered Bones", and the brand-new "Crossed Bones"
  • Ace Atkins, author of "Crossroad Blues", "Dark End of the Street", "Dirty South"
  • Tim Dorsey, author of "Cadillac Beach", "Florida Roadkill", "Triggerfish Twist", and "Hammerhead Ranch Motel"

Dr. James Hansen of Auburn University and Neil Armstrong will be invited for 2005 program.

Annual attendance: 150-200

The dinner is supported by Capitol Book & News of Montgomery, Troy State University Montgomery, the Alabama State Council on the Arts, the Alabama Writers’ Forum, the Alabama Public Library Service, the Alabama Department of Tourism and Travel and donations to the Alabama Center for the Book. Expenses are largely covered by ticket sales.

Partners are Troy State University Montgomery, the Alabama Writers’ Forum, the Alabama Public Library Service, Capitol Book & News, the Alabama Department of Tourism and Travel.
